Protecting Mental Health for Black and Brown Boys and Men
Meridian’s contract termination puts therapy, mentoring, and psychiatric care for over 400 clients at risk. GRO Community is taking action to ensure care continues.
The Challenge
Black and Brown boys and men face long-standing barriers to mental health care
Fewer clinicians of color and staffing shortages
High stigma around seeking help
Limited access to trusted, culturally competent services
The Facts
- African American males are 30% more likely to experience mental health challenges than White males

- Between 56 and 74 percent of Black men with trauma have unmet mental health needs, and only 26% can access services.

- Only one in three Black Americans who need mental health care actually receives it.

- Many rely on emergency care instead of trusted programs

The Impact
Over the past three years, GRO Community has grown to meet this urgent need, providing culturally competent, male-led mental health care that works.
